Establishment
Circostare formed in 2014 when interior architect Linnea Circo left a large Stockholm practice to open a smaller Gothenburg atelier focused on west coast light conditions. Partner designer Sten Are joined in 2017 bringing joinery documentation expertise.
The name combines Latin circumspectare — to look around carefully — with Scandinavian brevity, reflecting methodical site observation before any specification.
Gothenburg roots
Operating from Kungsgatan keeps us central to tram networks clients use when visiting the sample room. We document Haga limestone facades and harbour fog humidity patterns that affect material choices in waterside apartments.
Staff live across Västra Götaland, bringing neighbourhood-specific knowledge from Majorna to Örgryte into briefing sessions.
Team structure
Five interior designers, one lighting specialist, and a project coordinator manage concurrent commissions capped at six to protect attention quality. External photographers document completed work only with owner consent.
Internships align with Chalmers University of Technology interior architecture semesters each spring.
Sustainability stance
We specify FSC-certified timber, low-VOC paints available through Swedish retailers, and vintage furniture restoration where structural integrity allows. Replacement-only specifications require client acknowledgment in writing.
Lifecycle notes accompany major furniture items so clients understand expected durability horizons.
Recognition
Residential projects featured in Nordiska Projekt 2023 and 2025 editions without paid placement. We do not enter award programmes that charge submission fees, preferring peer publication instead.
